While ransomware attacks are becoming increasingly professional, many organizations have still not done basic IT security homework. Due to the effective underground economy of cyber criminals, the problem can also no longer be tackled with technical measures alone. The new federal government should tackle it with increased priority and a whole-of-government perspective. In addition to prevention measures, response and recovery plans should also be created for organizations across the board. It would also be possible to leverage tools used, for example, in the fight against organized crime, terrorism, or financial crime, and even in development assistance. Finally, multilateral initiatives to curb cybercrime and money laundering with cryptocurrencies would need to be strengthened.
